London’s festive lights! (Part 1)

When does Christmas start in London? If you believe some of the shops it’s September or even August but for me, it’s when the famous Christmas tree is lit in Trafalgar Square on 4th December. The tree has been sent from the people of Norway every year from 1947 to thank the people of Great Britain for their support during the Second World War. I was in the square to see the lights go on as the carols are sung and suddenly felt all Christmassy! The reflection in the fountain was a bonus.

Face to face with a golden tiger at the Queen’s Gallery!

All that glitters is definitely gold at the new exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery, London. One stunning piece which keeps drawing you back is the golden head of a tiger which stares out at you with its rock crystal eyes  Tipu Sultan, an Indian rule,  said that it was ‘better to live a single day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep’ and used the tiger as a symbol of his power, decorating his throne with gold heads and as a motif on his guards’ uniforms. This magnificent beast dates from the late 18th century and although the throne that he was part of was broken up, his head survived and was given to William lV so now part of the Queen’s Collection in Windsor.

Come on a virtual visit to London’s Frieze Art Fair

Frieze Art Fair takes place each year in a huge marquee in Regent’s Park and attracts the top art people from all over the world – artists, collectors, buyers, galleries and the likes of you and me who like to just visit. When I say visit, there is the people watching, the lusting after out of reach pricey art, there is the lunching and then, sometimes, there is the champagne. So all in all a big day out!
