The sun was shining and I was on my way to see a new show about the Impressionists at the Royal Academy, London and that surely is the start of a good day

The Royal Academy has reopened and as part of their new Covid19 safety procedures, entry is through the less familiar Burlington Gardens doors rather than the main courtyard but it’s still a grand entrance:

The new Royal Academy is a rather odd title since the Royal Academy is celebrating its 250th birthday!  What’s new is their fabulous extension into the neighbouring Burlington House giving them a great deal more exhibition space. Two great exhibitions in one with thanks to our Queen Elizabeth!

There is a gallery at Buckingham Palace called, unsurprisingly, the Queen’s Gallery, which I’ve visited several times and have seen some excellent exhibitions including Scott and Shackleton in 2011. This year they have excelled themselves by putting on 2 shows at the same time and I was lucky enough to be invited to the preview.  Continue reading →
